I posted about this romper previously because I truly did love the look of it. However, as I continued to wear it around the house, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I was not comfortable wearing it outside in public. It was too short and tight on my legs. Not to mention, every time I raised my arms, the romper looked more like a bathing suit, getting EVEN shorter.

I searched and searched online but the site was all sold out in the next size up. Saddened because I didn’t want to return it, I was determined to make this romper work. After figuring out that there was plenty of fabric to make it look the way I wanted it to, I found the problem area. THE ELASTIC WAISTBAND!!! If I could loosen the waistband, there would be instant added length. The waistband was already too tight in my opinion for the size too. Each time I wore it previously, I was left with an indentation in my skin from the waistband.

I googled my options. I ironed the elastic on super high heat. I stretched the romper over a chair. All of this was in the hopes of making the elastic lose its elasticity. After none of this worked, I decided on a different method involving scissors.

I turned the garment inside out and went to work. I found where the elastic was sewn in place but (very importantly was not sewn to the garment). I was not looking to cut a hole in the garment. My goal was to cut the elastic ONLY.

I found the first seam and used my seam ripper to carefully take apart the stitching. I did have to create a small hole in between the elastic and the inside casing that was concealing the elastic. Again, I didn’t want anyone who saw the romper to see a hole from the outside. Then I pushed small scissors through the small hole, made sure I was only going to cut the elastic, and snipped the elastic. I had to do this in probably four places around the garment.

And it worked! I love this romper now and will be comfortable wearing it outside my home.

XOXO
